Service 2 from Kent Mentor Support

Mentoring

Mentors provide guidance and moral support to children and young people assisting with the development of essential social skills, enabling the young person to recognise their own strengths, grow in confidence and provide support to overcome difficulties. Sessions are provided on a 1:1 basis and can focus on specific areas of need.

KMS mentors have a diverse range of skills, interests and experience and are carefully matched to the young person.

Who Do We Mentor?

Children and Young People

Mentoring is available for any child or young person who could benefit from the 1:1 support it offers. Mentors have a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with children and young people with a variety of different needs such as working to increase a young person’s self-esteem and confidence and social and communication skills.

Young & Vulnerable Adults 18+

KMS support young and vulnerable adults by developing skills that will help them cope and work confidently with their abilities and environment, in the home and in the community encouraging and empowering them to make positive life choices and develop independence.

Session locations, activities and tasks will vary depending on each individuals needs and interests (Session locations, activities and tasks will vary depending on each individuals needs and interests). Mentoring sessions may take place in a variety of locations such as the community, home or at KMS.

At KMS we are able to teach and support our young adults with basic life skills such as cooking, budgeting, money management etc.

Choosing the Right Mentor

The key to successful mentoring starts by choosing the right mentor.

We aim to provide a variety of mentors from a range of diverse backgrounds with each mentor bringing their own life experience and life skills to sessions. It is essential that we match the appropriate mentor to each young person in terms of their needs and interests.

Our mentors strive to set and teach individuals the importance of British values which will form the foundation upon which they can continue to develop.
