We are the Directors of KMS and together we have almost 50 years experience in working with children and young people in both social care and education settings. We believe that the positive, safe and nurturing environment KMS offers, provides our young people with every opportunity to develop their learning skills, and succeed in transitioning smoothly into adulthood and the world of work.
Our website offers insight into life at KMS and the incredible and supportive staff team we are proud to work with, who share our passion for raising students aspirations, creating opportunities, developing skills and achieving qualifications. Our committed team strive to maintain successful relationships with the local community and other local schools, colleges, training providers and employers. We work with our young people to plan their next steps, helping them progress into their chosen occupation or education placement when moving on from us.
We firmly believe that crucial to the success of our young people, is a positive relationship between home and school considering parents/carers as active partners in their young persons education and valuing their support.
Our young people are involved in the decisions we make at KMS through constant feedback processes, such as the student feedback forum ‘Our Voice’, so that we can ensure the service we provide meets their needs both as a learning community, and as individuals.
We hope our website will answer some of the questions you may have about us and give an insight into life as a learner at KMS. If you would like any further information or like to visit us here at the centre please do contact us.

Kent Mentor Support is open to all students. For those students who are not able to attend, staff have supported them and parents and carers, to set up email addresses which can be used to support online learning via Microsoft Teams.
Students are sent daily invites to the sessions which are hosted from the classroom, so that students can liaise directly with teaching staff and where appropriate, participate in the class learning and discussions.
Weekly pastoral phone calls to follow up on non-attendees have been implemented by members of the senior leadership team and as of the week beginning January 18th January 2021, fortnightly pupil progress meetings with teaching staff have also been implemented to discuss individual student engagement during lockdown.
Mentors provide guidance and moral support to children and young people assisting with the development of essential social skills, enabling the young person to recognise their own strengths, grow in confidence and provide support to overcome difficulties. Sessions are provided on a 1:1 basis and can focus on specific areas of need.
KMS mentors have a diverse range of skills, interests and experience and are carefully matched to the young person.
